A recent study revealed that recalls of unsafe products are on the rise, and that deaths associated with these recalls is also on the rise. It estimated that the percentage of products that are replaced or retrofitted during a recall is a paltry 5 to 10%. Here are some steps to remedy this:
- Always fill out and send in the manufacturers registration card for new children's products.
- Check for recalls at CPSC.gov and sign-up for email alerts on recalls. They also have an Android app for download.
- Report problems to SaferProducts.gov
- KidsInDanger.org is a great website resource listing current recalls, and offers email notifications.
Recent recalls have involved toys, cribs, clothing with cords, car seats, and window coverings.
