We replaced another gate at the top of our stairs with this gate-- it looks wonderful and is very sturdy. I love that it doesn't have a bottom "rung" like many of the other gates... no tripping over it when I'm walking up the stairs with the laundry basket! It also doesn't swing shut automatically, which is nice when the little one is napping. The color isn't very dark-- a honey oak'ish color. I would definitely recommend this gate! PS-- it wasn't too difficult to put together either.
