We've had this adapter for about six months, when our son turned a year, and it continues to work great now that he is 18 months old. We have a new home and didn't want to drill into our the posts or banister. Our son has really pulled on the gate with all his strength and the adaptor has remained securly in place. This is a fantastic product that allowed me to install a safety gate at the top of our stairs, despite the odd shape of our bannister rail. The adapter is rock solid. Pulling on the wooden rail once installed to the bannister actually moves my bannister, not the rail. The rail is a well-finished white painted surface without splinters or rough edges.
