When to use a Gate Mounting Kit
Safety gate mounting kits are sometimes needed to install your safety gate properly. It depends on the where you are placing the safety gate and to what you will be attaching the safety gate to.
Hardware mounted safety gates can usually be mounted directly to the wood trim of a doorway or to wood banister posts without a mounting kit. Many homeowners however do not want to mar existing woodwork with screw holes.
If you are attaching the safety gate to a drywall or plaster wall the best practice is to screw the gate hardware into the wall studs behind the drywall/plaster. Unfortunately there is not always a stud where you need to place the safety gate. Attaching the gate to the drywall or plaster directly without attaching to the stud behind will not be a strong enough connection and it will fail in time. There is also often a baseboard on walls which may interfere with attaching the lower gate hardware to the wall.
Another mounting condition sometimes encountered is wrought iron railing at a stairway. It would be difficult and damaging to drill into the wrought iron to mount your safety gate.
Fortunately, there are safety gate installation and mounting kits for all these conditions.
